The Mind

Can you tell me everything will be alright?
Can you see my empty soul in this twilight?
Can the moon’s light shadow my life’s insecurities?

Tell me it isn’t black and white but a whole lot of grey
There’s no right or wrong just harder to convey.

Your demons may disagree with your conclusions
They can warp your reality to make you feel disillusioned.

No matter what they say, stay true to yourself
 Better said than done.
But the mind is all powerful in and of itself
It can bring pain, comfort, joy, sadness, and hope.
It can hold on to the positive
But always shows you the negative
It can be your worst enemy and hurt you even more.

The mind can create and destroy, it can hate and love
It can make up a decoy, sending you flappin’ high above

It can be as beautiful as life and as horrendous as death
It is the only thing no one can take away
 until your last breath.
It can be manipulated like a puppet
Or cared for like a flower.
It may love knowledge or only the bad that it devours.

The mind can change but takes longer than the heart
The mind can bring you closer to perfection
 Or break you apart.
The mind can disguise truths in front of your eyes
The mind can bring you calmness after your cries

I have been writing poetry since a teenager but did not have the courage to really show it off. It wasn't until I had some tools as I battled depression and mental illness. They are still a part of me, which you will see for yourself. My writing is dark and raw.
